Historic Preservation
Fire protection issues are particularly complex in cultural institutions where fire safety engineers face the combined challenges of protecting priceless property, and ensuring life safety for thousands of attendees per day. Often, they must design non-intrusive systems that meet these challenges without impacting the historic fabric of the building. EFP’s reputations for excellence in fire engineering is evident in our client list. Our wide range of experience ranges from protecting rare zoological samples stored in flammable preservative fluids to preserving the architectural integrity of historic building while maintaining life safety. For each project, EFP offered unique performance-based design alternatives, and fire hazard and evacuation analyses. EFP’s fire protection and life safety strategies minimize the impact to the buildings’ historic fabric through the application of computer fire modeling, detailed fire hazard analysis, and negotiations with the local authorities and project stakeholders.
